Presentation Title: “The Role of Technology Partnerships to Enable Sustainable Energy and Digital Transformation in the Middle East”

Dr. Marcus Schumacher currently acts as Vice President& General Manager GCC at Johnson Controls after having previously held several executive management positions including Vice President Strategy, Vice President Operations and Engineering as well as Regional Executive Director for the applied HVAC Equipment and Industrial Refrigeration Business Units.
Marcus was key contributor for establishing Johnson Controls’ Energy Service Business in 2014 as one of the 1st certified ESCOs in the Middle East region.
In 2018, he established the Middle East Digital Solutions Smart Buildings Program at Johnson Controls serving in close cooperation with Microsoft and Evoteq landmark projects such as the first Artificial Enabled Building in the world– the Bee’ah office of the future. His current focus in the region centers around highly energy efficient and smart building concepts, smart campuses, hospitals and energy efficiency transformation measures to drive significant energy foot print reduction in district cooling installations.
For the work Johnson Controls has conducted in the field of energy reduction in medium voltage chilled water systems Johnson Controls has received the Middle East Climate Controls Award in 2018.
Marcus has more than 25 years of global experience across multiple industries of which 11 years dedicated to Middle East, Africa and India. Prior to Johnson Controls, he held the position of General Manager Middle East and India for Eaton’s Oil & Gas electrical and process instrumentation business as well as Head of Technology for AIXTRON AG, a market leader for the manufacturing of highly efficient light emitting devices, solar cells and laser applications.
He holds a master degree in Electrical Engineering and a PhD in Material Science, both from the leading German Technical University RWTH Aachen. He attended several executive business leadership programs with leading universities such as Wharton Business School and Rice University in the USA.
Marcus is author and co-author of more than 50 international publications and 7 patents.
